How to Make Harry Potter Oscar-Worthy:
- Ron and Harry are gay. They figure this out around book 5 or 6.
- The series takes place in Germany in the 40s. As it stands, the Nazi/Holocaust metaphors are far too subtle in the books for the Academy.
- Hermoine is losing her magic and memory, which is what drove Ron into Harry's arms to begin with. Emma Watson's powerful performance earns her a nomination, but accidentally kissing a confused Ginny she mistakes as Ron helps seal the deal.
- Voldemort keeps making references to a shock-and-awe campaign and a few other unsubtle "ZOMG this is just like the War on Terror" analogies. Hey, it worked for Avatar.
- Maggie Smith does a topless scene and gets praised in the press for being "bold" and "daring."
- Harry's parents are revealed to be miserable in their marriage and were both cheating with Wormtail before dying.

I'm so exhausted by RP right now.
Games are so insular and cliquish that if you aren't coming in with a line or buddy buddy with everyone in game, why bother?
People get ignored, and then the mods act like it's our fault.
I am as guilty as the last person. Still, really? I am just angry. I am probably going to drop one game because I feel shunned there.
And I don't get searching for new lines for the game WHEN THERE ARE PEOPLE WHO NEEDS LINES YOU COULD TWEAK YOURS TO.

I've realized just how horribly riddled with privilege all RP apps are. There are so many assumptions that every character fits into the heteronormative descriptors we place on them. I've just had a massive struggle with apping a genderqueer character.
Not everyone can fit into neat boxes. There are also too many presumptions about gender, orientation, family structure, relationships.
Orientation: What does it mean? Most sexual scientists say no one is purely heterosexual or homosexual. To confine a character to such is biased. Not to mention most definitions are geared toward those who are cisgendered.
Gender: Once again, not everyone fits into gender norms. Are my apps making people uncomfortable by this assumption?
Relationship status: First, not many characters enter a game in a relationship, and this could easily be more readily defined under a broader "family" category.
I'm pissed at myself for possibly alienating people, and I am pissed at not being able to describe a character on the general confines of applications, and then being forced to conform my character. Needless to say, I am going to likely be re-writing all the apps for my games, or at least re-evaluate them for their biases.

In 1998, just after Lord Voldemort delivered the killing curse to Harry Potter, a peculiar incident occurred. A light flashed over all of Britain and then there was a deafening silence. A country of over fifty million was suddenly reduced to less than a hundred thousand. Cities became ghost towns as all of the muggles disappeared off the British Isle. The interruption was enough to turn the tides in favor of the Death Eaters, and by sunrise, they had declared victory.
Now five years later, the Voldemort Regime has enacted harsh laws to restrict all but those who are loyal to the Dark Lord. Muggleborns have been reduced to either slaves or criminals, laboring for the Dark Lord or on the run from his hit wizards. Those loyal to the Dark Lord have been given large swaths of land, and prestigious positions in the wizarding government. Those who are not have had their homes, jobs, businesses and even children stripped from them.
With muggleborn rebellions on the rise, and criminals organizing, the country is turning more and more violent, and the only solution seems to be to find where the muggles have gone, and how can they get back to the old world?

Can someone tell me on what planet it's acceptable to IM someone you haven't spoken to in over a year about RP, and then suddenly start discussing explicit subjects, even when the other person has clearly said they are uncomfortable?

Fill in the blanks "Five _____ that ______" and GIVE IT TO ME while making it relevant to a character I play/have played. AND I WILL FULFILL IT.
Such as: five pranks that Sirius has played or five reasons Scorpius loves his mommy. THAT SORT OF THING.

So..
My eye pressure was too high today to do the yag, and the doctor, after further examination has determined that I don't need a yag treatment, but in fact am going to require full cataract surgery.
At 31.
I realize this is not a major surgery, and I've been through worse, but my biggest fear has always been losing my vision. I used to could read the bottom line of the eye charts.
My eye issues are going to be permanent, however. He said that the chances of me regaining my vision to any functional level in my right eye were minimal. The iris is too far damaged at this point. I've spent the afternoon crying and in prayer hoping for a miracle.
I need one badly.

So I have this idea for a panfandom game
It's based on the Chicagoland Vampires fandom. The fandom in a nutshell is that there are 12 houses of vampires in the US and three of them are in Chicago. The houses are set up in a very feudal system. Each vampire pledges his loyalty to his house and his liege, the Master of the House. Each house is a large facility, and has almost "dormatory style living" for the vamps of the house.
There is tension between the houses, as each vie for control of Chicago and the resources there. Which house drinks blood, which house owns which club, which house has the most political sway in the city of Chicago.
The idea is to do a panfandom, where people can take fictional characters and put them in one of the three houses. A place with a vampire Pansy Parkinson, Elle Woods or even Bruce Wayne. It would be different, but I worry it's too different.
*sigh*
I shall mull it over.

I am so tired of being sick.
Yesterday, I went for my usual weekly bloodwork. 8 vials of blood, pee in a cup... it gets old. My doctors have changed my diet, and it sucks. That's all I am going to say. It sucks donkey butt. I almost passed out at the health food store, and I then almost cried in Walmart. Granted it *is* Walmart, that's enough to make anyone cry.
